NJ SUMMIT — Historic Preservation Commission objects to demolition of 1897 downtown building. The HPC voted unanimously on the preliminary and final site plan for 11-15 Beechwood Road in the downtown historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but recommended preservation and adaptive reuse instead of the proposed four-story replacement building. The commission stated that repair and reuse are economically and technically feasible and requested testimony on rehabilitation options from the applicant.
The HPC also approved advisory recommendations on six residential properties and presented Stewardship Awards to five homes for exemplary restoration and maintenance.
