NJ SUMMIT — Summit Common Council prohibited artificial intelligence data centers and detention facilities from the city, passing the AI ban 5 to 1 and detention ban unanimously. Councilmember Jamel Boyer dissented on the AI ordinance, arguing the 20-megawatt power threshold could be circumvented through facility subdivision; Councilmembers Dan Crisafulli, Landman, Lasaracina, Kalmanson, and President Claire Toth voted in favor of the measure. The Council also authorized three bond ordinances totaling 10,447,000 dollars in appropriations for city, sewer, and parking improvements, and appointed Andrew Smith to fill a vacant Ward 1 seat.
