Council introduces $83.76 million 2026 operating and capital budgets

NJ SUMMIT — Summit's Common Council introduces $83.76 million in 2026 operating and capital budgets, a 5.2% increase from 2025. City Administrator and Chief Financial Officer Tammie Baldwin presented the comprehensive proposal, which requires a municipal tax rate increase of $0.027 per $100 of assessed valuation to generate approximately $920,000 in additional revenue. The general fund budget totals $63.427 million, up 6.1% from 2025, driven by a $1.674 million increase in municipal operational expenses including utilities and healthcare insurance.
The council unanimously introduced three ordinances for first reading on parking fees, street excavation rules, and speed limits. The public budget hearing is scheduled for May 5, 2026.
