NJ SUMMIT — The Environmental Commission reported progress on the Tiny Forest reforestation site, which hosted successful volunteer workdays on May 30 with six high school students and eleven adults, and on June 13 with two high school students and several adults removing invasive plants and adding wood chips. Commission Chair Donna Goggin Patel will represent the project at an ANJEC lunch webinar on July 15 and the virtual 2026 Northeast Miniforest Summit on July 22. The Recycling Advisory Committee reported challenges with food waste composting measurement and improperly disposed wet plastic bags at the transfer station; DPW agreed to add a collection container for wet items and approved rotating monthly instructional banners at the Transfer Station entrance.
The city's recycling contract with Interstate Waste was renewed following Interstate's acquisition of Grand Sanitation. The commission did not receive a $10,000 Sustainable Jersey grant but will continue efforts to fund an EV charging station at City Hall.
